Gyantse, street in old town
Scenic street in the old town of Gyantse. Walking this dirt road in Gyantse was like going back in time or walking on a movie set. The beautiful Tibetan houses, cows everywhere and a horse cart that comes straight at us. On the walls of the Tibetan house on the right side of the photo you can clearly see the plaques of cow dung and straw. They are dried this way and later those the plaques serve as fuel.

Tashilhunpo Monastery, Shigatse
Tashilhunpo Monastery, Shigatse The Tashilhunpo Monastery (built in 15th century) in Shigatse used to be the traditional seat of the panchen lama, the second most important lama within the gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. Tashilhunpo is an important destination for pilgrims in Tibet. Tashilhunpo means “all fortune and happiness gathered here” in Tibetan.

Barkhor Kora (Kora around Jokhang Temple)
Another visit to the Jokhang area and the Kora around the Jokhang temple (=Barkhor Kora) in Lhasa. The Barkhor Kora (circling the ancient Jokhang Temple) is the most famous pilgrim circuit in Lhasa. Ganden Monastery & Road to Ganden
Ganden Monastery & Road to Ganden. Ganden Monastery is one of the three great monasteries of the Gelug order of Tibet. The other two monasteries are Sera and Drepung in Lhasa. Ganden is located on top of Mount Wangbur in Tagtse district, about 35 kilometers northeast of Lhasa. It lies at an altitude of 4300 meters and towering over the valley of the Lhasa River. Ganden was the original monastery of the Gelug Order and was founded in the beginning of the 15th century by Lama Tsongkhapa. Jokhang Temple, Lhasa, Tibet
The Jokhang Temple and the square in front of the temple. The Jokhang temple (or Zuglagkang) is located in the center of the old town of Lhasa in Tibet. Tibetans consider the Zuglagkang as the most sacred and most important temple of Tibet. The Jokhang temple was founded during the reign of King Songtsen Gampo and the oldest part of the temple was built in 652, which makes it the oldest Buddhist temple of the country. Since the year 2000 the Jokhang is listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
