Ganden Monastery & Road to Ganden.

Ganden Monastery is one of the three great monasteries of the Gelug order of Tibet. The other two monasteries are Sera and Drepung in Lhasa. Ganden is located on top of Mount Wangbur in Tagtse district, about 35 kilometers northeast of Lhasa. It lies at an altitude of 4300 meters and towering over the valley of the Lhasa River. Ganden was the original monastery of the Gelug Order and was founded in the beginning of the 15th century by Lama Tsongkhapa. The monastery is traditionally seen as the administrative and political power of the Gelug.
